Great organization, great people, great website. Browse through our field trip calendar, local birding hot spots, local natural history, and much more. Click here.
The ABA's website is a required stop for all birding web surfers. Among many other features, it contains a current checklist of accepted North American species and a Code of Ethics to which all birders should adhere. Here's the link.
This is sent to me by a middle school student and his teacher. It's a simple site about bird watching that kids can read and get a good sense of what birding is all about. Note: This is attached to a website that sells furniture. I am NOT endorsing that company or its products. I know nothing about them. But the birding page looks great for beginners. Check it out here. And a special shout out to Trent for the link!
I've never used David's guide business, but I have birded with him, and I'm impressed. He's knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. Also, he has the best birding ears I've ever been around. His birding blog is informative and I enjoy keeping track of his big day efforts through his posts to Facebook. Here's the link.
I DO NOT endorse or even have any knowledge of the window products linked to this website. However, the birding information seems to be helpful for beginning birders and feeder watchers. The link is here.
A good place to start any birding trip is checking out the Great Florida Birding Trail. There are four booklets in the series and together they report on hundreds of birding sites across the state. You can download the booklets from the state site. Here's the web address. Click here to get started.
Angel and Mariel Abreu are two of the world's really good people, and their Miami-based bird-guiding company, Nature is Awesome Birding and Wildlife Tours is as great as they are. You can count on them to go the extra mile to ensure that you have a terrific experience. Check out their website here.
About four times a year, Michael Brothers of the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet leads a pelagic trip out into the Atlantic. It's a first class birding experience that I highly recommend. Here's a link to the Marine Science Center. Click on "Contact Us" to get Michael's email address. Don't miss this.
If you're planning any birding in the Pinellas County area, this site is absolutely invaluable. Great photos, accurate information, interesting articles, and bird sightings that are updated almost constantly make this one of the best websites of its kind. You can access Ron Smith's site by clicking here.
You shouldn't really bird Polk County without first checking Chuck Geanangel's site for the best birding spots. And if you're targeting specific species, his site will save you loads of time. Check it out here.
The Treasure Coast Birding Festival is planned for late October and includes a nice array of field trips, lectures, and special events. You can get complete information here.
John Puschock is the founder of the original Florida County Listing website. Since leaving Florida he has founded Zugunruhe Birding Tours, features the most extensive schedule of tours to Adak Island, Alaska with guides who have extensive experience birding the island. They also have a number of short tours targeting species with restricted ranges or that are otherwise difficult to see on other tours, plus longer tours to some incredible destinations. If/when I schedule a tour to Alaska, this is where I'm starting. Click here for the link.
