This website is for Florida's thousands of birders and for those who visit our state.  It is dedicated to those who keep life lists for each county they bird.  I've listed everything I can learn about their totals.  Any errors and inaccuracies are my fault alone.

To submit your data, contact me at Bob@flcountylisting.com and I'll post your information as quickly as I can.  Please check my work for accuracy -- I've made far too many errors to think I'm perfect.

About County Listing

I am a birder.  I love the challenge and the excitement of learning about each species and seeking out every place where birds may be hiding.  I especially love birding throughout my adopted state of Florida.  So far, I've visited 66 of Florida's 67 counties, missing only Monroe, which is on my To Do list for 2010.

I am also a lister.  I keep a life list of every species I've seen in each county.  I've heard some people argue that listers are only after new ticks on their lists and don't really appreciate the birds themselves.  Not so.  In fact, the truth is just the opposite.  My lists are really memories of each park, roadside field, or beach that I've visited.  And while I've seen many birders who scoff at listing ignore a bird because it was "only a cardinal," I've celebrated seeing a cardinal at least 64 times - once for every time I've found one in a new county.  It makes me appreciate each species over and over again.

This website is run on the honor system.  That is, if you say you saw X species in a county, I'll post that number.  My only caveat is that you see or hear each species in accordance with the American Birding Association's listing rules and its Code of Ethics.

There are a few cases in which the ABA's list of countable species differs from that of the Florida Ornithological Society.  In those cases, I'll defer to the more inclusive list.

So get out there and see this wonderful state - and keep a list wherever you go.  Then send in your data, and I'll post it.  It's that easy.

Good Birding,

Bob Carroll
